If you think paying $60 for a chart-topping video game is too much, what would you say when someone asks you to pay $17,500 for a Nintendo Wii game? You wouldn’t even think about if you are a common gamer, but even a collector will be dazzled by the insane price. The game in concern is an obscure NES game from 1990. The allegedly ultra-rare version of Nintendo World Championship is packed in a gold-coloured cartridge. As found on Wikipedia, only 26 copies of the game were created.
JJ Hendricks, a collector brought this game for a mind blowing $17,500 from eBay. If this is not enough to dazzle, the game was original listed on eBay at ‘only’ $25,000.
Speaking of the gameplay, the game has a time limit of a mere 6 minutes and 21 seconds. In this time, you will have to compete in three short segments from other world-class NES games which include Super Mario Bros., Tetris, and Rad Racer. The player is rated according to the performance in each game. A total score is calculated once the time limit expires. While the gameplay doesn’t sound good enough for $25,000, it is obvious that Hendricks has bought it just for gameplay.
The buyer recently shared his experience on the internet. He calls the game as the “Holy Grail of Gaming”. The process of getting the game was pretty emotional and filled with obstacles, as he wrote on a blog. But he is sure that the game is worth $17,500.
