Rechargeable batteries: economic, environment-friendly
Sometimes called storage batteries, rechargeable batteries are effectively a group of one or multiple secondary cells. Available in various sizes and chemical combinations, these batteries take the help of electrochemical reactions that are electrically reversible. The most commonly used rechargeable batteries are Nickel Cadmium Battery (NiCd), Nickel-Metal Hydride Battery (NiMH) and Lithium-ion Battery. Compared to disposable batteries, rechargeable batteries are not only more economic but also more environment-friendly.
Rechargeable batteries, especially of the AA, AAA and CR123A types, are often of the same size as their disposable counterparts. Although they cost you more at the beginning, rechargeable batteries cost you much less than disposable batteries in the long run as they can be recharged many times. If you choose the right type of rechargeable battery system, you help the cause of environment by reducing the amount of toxic materials left in landfills. Manufacturers of NiMH rechargeable batteries claim that their products have a service life of 100 to1000 charge cycles.
At present, rechargeable batteries are generally used for various applications such as mobile consumer devices, automobile starters, motorized wheelchairs, golf carts, electric bicycles, and electric forklifts, tools, and uninterruptible power supplies. These batteries need to be charged prior to use. As it caused inconvenience at times of urgency, new low self discharge batteries now already hold much of the rated capacity, allowing you to use them immediately and recharge later. Because they are economic in the long run and cause less harm to environment, the popularity of rechargeable batteries is on the rise across the world.
